Reduce hidden work
A home system works best when it makes the next action obvious. Open storage, labelled homes for frequently lost items, duplicate chargers and visible baskets may be more useful than a theoretically perfect organisation system nobody maintains.
Make completion smaller
“Clean the kitchen” is a project. “Put the mugs in the dishwasher” is an action. Breaking vague chores into visible next steps lowers the amount of planning required before anything can happen.
Useful experiments
- Put keys, wallet and headphones in one landing zone.
- Use recurring reminders for tasks that never become automatic.
- Keep cleaning supplies where they are used.
- Try body doubling for boring admin or tidying.
- Prefer systems that survive an imperfect week.
