Families

For families.

Families can make life much easier by replacing assumptions about laziness or effort with practical curiosity: what is making this task difficult, and what would reduce that friction?

Look for the bottleneck

If someone repeatedly fails at the same apparently simple task, more reminders to “try harder” may not change much. Is the problem remembering, starting, sequencing, estimating time, tolerating boredom or understanding the expectation?

Support independence

Helpful support makes systems easier to use without taking over every responsibility. Visual routines, predictable places for important items and clear instructions can support independence better than repeated verbal prompting.

Notice what works too

ADHD discussions can become a catalogue of failures. Curiosity, humour, creativity, energy, persistence on interesting problems and unusual connections may also be part of someone's experience. People are bigger than a diagnostic checklist.
